Lighthouse paintings
In one of the online art groups I am a member of there was a discussion about using reference photos and how you are using someone else’s artistic vision when you do so (unless of course the photo is one you took yourself)

Hi Tyanne. I like the idea of adding to a photo (or taking away from one) to make it my own but I figure there is no way I am going to really be able to copy one so I don’t worry about it much. I think the main thing is to ask yourself if you like the composition and what could make it better and then do that. I am one though that doesn’t want to reinvent the wheel. (Besides, I’m lazy). I like your band of land across the way from the lighthouse. It definitely changes the feel of the picture.

An interesting topic – we’re told to draw and paint what we see, what we know. I think all art has some interpretation unless one has the ability to paint as a camera. I like how you’ve experiemented with colors, medium, and content of the same lighthouse.
